As a high school student, Gerina won in the New Mexico golf state tournament. Also, she was a volleyball player who competed at the national level. In 2003, she started her studies in the University of Texas. In her senior year she was a winner of every tournament that was entered. In her undergraduate professional career, she took home an award for Conference USA Individual Champion Player of the Year Award and UTEP Female Athlete of the Year.
